Right now our library is gearing up for National Simultaneous Storytime next Wednesday 27 May. Feather boas are being found, sparkles and sequins are being sourced and you may hear the smoky sounds of jazzy numbers echoing through the bookshelves because this year the book we are reading is Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas by Lucinda Gifford!
Whitney and Britney are two gorgeous chooks who live alongside Dora von Dooze. But Dora is perplexed - why do her dear chickens seem to sleep all day long? Dora decides to snoop. She follows the chooks out at night to the local jazz club where she discovers, to her amazement, that they are Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas! National Simultaneous Storytime is organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas in primary schools. To join in at home, watch Denise Scott read the book from the Play School Story Time couch at 11am on Wednesday 27 May on ABC Kids. and ABC Kids iview. Alternatively you can watch Emma from the Wiggles read the book online at Storybox Library https://storyboxlibrary.com.au/. Don't forget that you can also enjoy lots of other books on Storybox Library using our school username and password. You can find these on the Oliver Library webpage through the student portal.

This term we are happy to be running the Scholastic Book Club so that you can purchase books and other resources. In the past some students may have brought a catalogue for Book Club home from which to order. However, due to the current COVID-19 situation, the catalogue will look a little different. It will be a virtual catalogue rather than the printed catalogues you’re used to receiving. Even though this is a virtual catalogue, we will still receive 20% of your order value back in Scholastic Rewards to use to purchase additional books and resources for our school. Click on the link to look at the virtual catalogue for the May issue. Then place your order online by going to the LOOP order system and follow the prompts. If you haven’t ordered using the LOOP online ordering system before, you will need to register for it. If you need help with ordering online, check out our step-by-step instructions in the How To Guides here in our library blog. Orders need to be in by 15 May. Late orders will not be accepted. Please note that your order MUST be placed on the LOOP online ordering system. We will NOT be accepting payments at school. Once your order arrives at school, we will contact you to arrange for you to collect it. For further information contact Mrs Veugen in the library. |
