Pet books for Kindergarten |
Do you have a pet? If you don't, what sort of pet would you like to have?
Kindergarten have been reading books about pets in our library lessons this term. Here are some of them.
Rex by Ursula Dubosarsky (illustrated by David Mackintosh)
Rex is the class pet. Every day a different student gets to take this tiny chameleon home, along with a book for record what Rex got up to at their house. Rex gets up to all sorts of funny adventures and the illustrations are shown as if they were made by the students.
The Kindy kids had some great ideas for what they would do if Rex visited their house, from jumping on the trampoline, riding on swings and motorbikes. And how could you ever beat a chameleon at a game of hide and seek?
Australian author Ursula Dubosarsky is the current Australian Children's Laureate. She travels the country promoting reading and encouraging children to join their local library. Her books have been published all over the world and translated into fourteen different languages.

Oliver and Patch by Claire Freedman (illustrated by Kate Hindley)
Oliver is lonely in his new home in the city until he meets a little lost dog called Patch. They have great fun together during the day, but Patch seems to miss his home at night. Oliver knows he should look for Patch's real owner, but can he bear to give his new friend up?

My Dog Bigsy by Alison Lester
Bigsy is only small, but he knows he's the boss on the farm. Each morning he visits the animals to remind them. What a busy dog! Kindergarten had great fun reading this story and joining in with the noises the animals made.
Alison Lester is one of Australia's best loved children's author/illustrators. Her books routinely win hearts and awards. To find out more about her wonderful books, go to her website.
